About Us

We are a non-profit organization in the field of special education and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities in India with more than 50 years of dedicated service. In particular we actively involve in various activities for the empowerment of the Deaf. We as a pioneer organization developed multilingual dictionaries in Indian Sign Language. We organize awareness and sensitization programmes for teachers, special educators, parents and other professionals those who are dealing directly or indirectly with deaf people. We carry out research studies on Indian Sign Language. We also conduct research projects in collaboration with national institutions. We offer quality education to deaf students through special as well as mainstream schools. We offer placements for deaf. We give guidance and counseling to deaf community for their personal, academic, vocational and social development. We inculcate moral and ethical values in deaf people.

About Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute

Inspired by the vision of Swami Vivekananda, the Ramakrishna Mission initiated steps in 2004 to establish a university that would spread the blessings of education and development for the benefit of India and other nations as well. As a result, the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute was established with Faculty of Disability Management and Special Education (FDMSE) as one of its faculties in Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Perianaickenpalayam, Coimbatore.

About Faculty of Disability Management and Special Education (FDMSE) and Sign Language Unit

The Faculty of Disability Management and Special Education (FDMSE) of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University is involved in various types of activities since 2005. Under the department of Hearing Impairment of FDMSE, there is a Sign Language Unit which has been working for the promotion and development of Sign Language. The unit is offering many long term and short term courses for developing manpower in the field of education and rehabilitation of children with hearing impairment. Apart from academic function, the unit is actively involved in conducting researches in various aspects of Sign Language.
